Dave: OU and ISU — the two underachievers of the Big 12

After the Baylor game, I asked my brother and sister in a text what their thoughts were.

My brother’s reply was “We are what they thought we were.” And my sister’s was “This team has so much talent but continues to under achieve.”

I’m tempted to just end this article right here and say the Worry Meter is at 90% this week and have a good day. I think those two replies sum up Oklahoma’s season perfectly.

We as fans didn’t want to admit it, but 9-0 was fool’s gold. The signs were right there in front of us.

Close calls against several mediocre to bad teams. Teams Oklahoma were expected to bury at the start of the season.

It was nice to see such a dominate performance from Oklahoma in their last game, even if it was just Texas Tech.

Tech can still toss the ball around.  But the return of some key defensive players certainly helped keep the Red Raiders under control which allowed the Sooner offense plenty of chances to run up the score on a beautiful day in Norman.

Jalen Redmond, D.J. Graham and Delarrin Turner-Yell were all back to full strength and it showed.  Redmond create havoc on his own, but that also helped Isaiah Thomas to have his own party from the outside.

But perhaps the biggest difference was Turner-Yell back at strong safety which allowed Tennessee transfer Key Lawrence to move to cornerback.

Lawrence shined with several pass break ups and blanket coverage.  And that in turn, in my opinion, allowed Grinch to have the confidence to play his defense backs much tighter against the opposing receivers.

Well, what the heck do I know? I set the Worry Meter at 5% last week against Kansas.

The Jayhawks were last in the Big 12 and had only one win on the season against a terrible South Dakota team.

And it took a last minute touchdown on their home field to secure the victory.

And did I mention it was Kansas?

But the Sooner defense has been in a giving mood almost all year this season. As such, yet another mediocre quarterback had a career day against us.
