Defense carries Sooners into Big 12 championship game, with 27-14 win over Baylor

by

A tenacious Baylor defense stymied the Oklahoma offense all night.

But for perhaps the first time this season it was the Sooners defense that stepped up to keep OU ahead in the game, and secured not only a 27-14 win, but a berth in the Big 12 Championship game on December 19.

The Oklahoma defense has held opponents to 14 points or less in the last three games.

After an 0-2 start for the season, when it seemed unlikely they would wind up at AT&T Stadium at the end of the season, the Sooners return to the championship game.

Oklahoma has played in the title game 12 times and lost only once.

However, Oklahoma Coach Lincoln Riley wasn’t satisfied with the performance Saturday night..

“I think our guys weren’t coached worth a damn this week, to be completely honest,” he said in his post-game press conference.

Bedlam ends in blowout, OU wins 41-13

A tenacious defense and an offense that stumbled mid-way but righted itself turned Bedlam into a blowout as the Sooners continued their domination of the series against the Cowboys 41-13 under the prime time lights on Saturday.

It was the 90th win for Oklahoma over Oklahoma State in the 115 years the in-state rivals have played.

“We wanted to play tonight like we were the hunter and not the hunted,” Oklahoma Coach Lincoln Riley said. “We had to play aggressive. You have to go take it to beat a good team like this. And we certainly did that.”

Although the Oklahoma offense has lead the team in recent years, this Bedlam game showed an emerging defensive strength that led to the Sooners playing complimentary football in a manner long hoped for by fans.

Stevenson returns to treat Red Raiders to a Halloween nightmare, OU dominates 62-28

by

When Rhamondre Stevenson trotted off the field after scoring his third touchdown, he flashed a T-Shirt underneath his uniform that had the words “I’m Back” stenciled on it.

Indeed he is. And perhaps it means even more regarding Oklahoma’s return to the conference championship race.

Stevenson’s low-center-of-gravity running style blew up the Texas Tech defense and gave QB Spencer Rattler the balanced attack (38 rushing plays/39 passing plays) to lead the Sooners to a 62-28 Big 12 conference win in Lubbock on Saturday night.

It was Texas Tech’s Halloween nightmare.

Stevenson lead Sooners rushers with 87 yards on 13 carries.
