Sooners roll to 48-16 win in season opener

by

A strong running back presence marked the Sooners’ 48-16 steamrolling of Louisiana Tech.

Running backs Keith Ford, Alex Ross and true freshman Samaje Perine combined for five touchdowns.

Meanwhile, sophomore QB Trevor Knight threw for 253 yards and one TD in his sixth career start. He went 19-for-34 in passing with one interception.

But the running backs stole the show. Even six of Knight’s passes went to Ford, who had 65 receiving yards.

The game had most Sooners fans talking about the strength of the running back corps. All told, Ford, Ross and Perine combined 260 yards from scrimmage and Ross added an 80-yard kickoff return that set up the Sooners’ final touchdown.

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department has unveiled the addition of a “Walk of Champions” to the pageantry of the Sooners pregame festivities for 2014, providing fans an official opportunity to welcome the football team to Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium each Saturday.

Two hours before each home game, head coach Bob Stoops and the Sooners will disembark from the OU team busses at the intersection of Lindsey St. and Jenkins Ave. to begin an informal march dubbed the “Walk of Champions.” Prior to the team’s arrival, OU Spirit and OU Football alumni will conduct an informal pep rally as they wait for the team’s arrival.

The pep rally will start with a blast from the RUF/NEKS shotguns to assemble fans 15 minutes prior to the team’s arrival. Fans are encouraged to cheer on the team upon arrival and watch as Coach Stoops, the squad and past Oklahoma letterwinners walk the final yards to the Switzer Center. Fans may begin lining up starting three hours prior to kickoff on Jenkins Ave.
