Dave: Bring on the SEC, but worry meter jumps

by

To me the win against Tulsa was very impressive. That could have been a huge trap game. On the road against a big underdog. Bad weather. The game before the big bad SEC comes to Norman.

OU could have really struggled to get up for that game. But they took to the field in a business like manner and they, well…took care of business.

The offense didn’t miss a beat scoring touchdowns on three of their first four possessions. And the defense continued to dominate in all phases and limited Tulsa to 7 points and just over 300 yards of offense. Most of it in garbage time.

Trevor continues to improve with every game and the Belldozer got the first touchdown reception of his career to become one of just a handful of Sooners who have passed for, rushed for and caught a touchdown. It was just a very impressive performance, as it was supposed to be.

And now, as I stated earlier, the big bad SEC rolls into Norman in the form of the Tennessee Volunteers.

I can’t begin to tell you how sick I am of this whole Stoops vs the SEC that has been so overblown by the media. All he ever did was give his opinion about the way the media has spun the supposed dominance of the SEC.

Supreme Court allows 1-year Shannon suspension

by

The Oklahoma State Supreme Court lifted a Norman judge’s stay of OU’s one-year suspension of LB Frank Shannon, in a 5-2 decision issued Monday. The ruling allows the university to enforce its suspension of Shannon, removing him from both classroom and football field.

Shannon was suspended one year by OU after he was found by the university to have violated the school’s sexual misconduct policy. A female student alleged that Shannon sexually assaulted her at his off-campus apartment in late January; however, she refused to press charges and the district attorney declined to prosecute.

Shannon was the team’s leading tackler last season. He has been held out of the first two games of the season pending the court action.

The university had appealed Cleveland County District Judge Tracy Schumacher’s order staying enforcement of the suspension. The Supreme Court ruled that Schumacher lacked jurisdiction to review the university’s disciplinary decision and dissolved the stay.
